Treeview Resident Award

A long standing resident of Treeview Merle Thompson recently won the “Recognition Award”  from the National Council of Women of New South Wales (NCW NSW) at a gala lunch celebrating the organisation’s 120th anniversary at the New South Wales parliament house.

The award recognises a person who has worked to advance the status of women. Their work would most likely be marked by dedication and/or persistence. Merle’s efforts to advance the status of women have focussed on providing administrative support to organisations which directly assist women or advocate for them.

A start studded crowd attended the lunch including the Premier Mike Baird and Mrs Baird, Minister Pru Goward, Professor Dame Marie Bashir AD CVO and The Hon Elizabeth Evatt AC.

The award was presented by NCW NSW’s patron Mrs Linda Hurley who is the wife of the Governor of NSW, His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd).

NCW NSW is one of the oldest women’s organisations in Australia and has been recognising and fighting for women’s rights and equal opportunities for 120 years. NCW NSW women continue this unbroken service to women’s welfare and social justice by influencing public opinion, lobbying governments, initiating and supporting projects, and offering scholarships and awards.
